Thoughts on the Sustainable Practice

Following on from the previous blog where I outlines the elements of an unsustainable practice, this week and in the coming weeks I will take a few moments to identify some of the many characteristics of a sustainable practice. I will outline some of the key distinctions of these practices and identify a few suggestions for you to implement in your practice if this is an issue for you.

The mark of a sustainable practice is in the ability to continue to function effectively and efficiently by itself, especially when the principle chiropractor is not present. In keeping with the old story that when the cat’s away the mice will play, the real test of a sustainable practice comes when the owner is not there.

How the owner delegates authority during normal operations will determine how well things will run in his/her absence.

The key distinction that you must address here is that of whether you truly delegated both the AUTHORITY and the RESPONSIBILITY for a given position of responsibility, activity or job. Often the case is that the principle or manager will only just delegate the job neglecting to assign with it the power to decide and act. This is especially the case in the owner’s absence.

Your attention to this point is critical to you building your team and business to ensure that it is a sustainable operation ensuring that you are not the bottleneck in your practice through which everything must pass.

This frees you up to build your sustainable practice and allows you to inspire, lead and manage remotely.
