With the end of the year fast approaching I am sure that you are hearing others (and maybe yourself) saying – “OMG, where did the year go?” Quite a valid question, I would say. Are you and your practice where you thought you would be by this December when 2015 began?

How does your reality line up with the reality that you imagined at the beginning of the year? Have your plans resulted in the outcomes that you set 12 months ago?

Take a few moments to reflect on where, at the beginning of the year you wanted to be by now. How does it match up? If you are or if you aren’t, what contributed to that? Being an agent of Smart Change you will have factored 2 issues.

Firstly, were you smart about your expectations? Were they realistic and achievable? Often we can be bright eyed and passionate chiropractors who want to go from zero to 100 in 2 seconds. When that doesn’t come about we get down on ourselves and beat ourselves up.

This may not be a useful approach.

This suggestion is not about stealing dreams – if you dream it you can achieve it – it is just a matter of how. This is about chunking for success.

The great thing about life is that it is to a large degree self determined. A saying that I have always held dear is ‘that if it is to be – it is up to me’.

The second issue you will have been confronted with is this. You may have heard that part of yourself saying, “That’s a nice concept – But, what about things that are out of my control?” “What about the economy?”, “What about the medical attacks?”, “What about the government policy changes?” – you know the story.  Granted, stuff does happen and that ‘stuff’ does mess up our plans. It always has and it always will.

The question is, do your expectations of the ideal and fast outcome get in the way or do you let the external stuff have a limiting affect on you?

The successful agents of Smart Change recognise that there is a bit of both at play at all times. They just make the most of it and move forward in a constructive way consistent with their vision and plans and flow with the ‘curve balls’ that come their way as a part of life.

Contemplate these thoughts over the next week and we will then continue the end of year wrap-up so that we can go into 2016 with great distinctions from our experience of 2015.
