As chiropractors, we have an intense desire to help people. We have a very effective array of tools to give relief and support and we are very eager to employ them. This desire often sees us diving in to ‘help’ a person at the first indicator they present with. We think that they have come to see us to get chiropractic care for their presenting complaints. This is the chiropractor’s assumption and it is in error.
When people come to see you, its about them – not about chiropractic. They come to see you because their life is being inhibited and they want to get that part that is missing back.
Many chiropractors get frustrated with people who don’t ‘get it’. My viewpoint is that it is not about ‘it’, it’s about them.
If you are to create long term relationships with your practice members, find out about them – their loves and likes, their values and beliefs, their family and their friends etc.
When they get that it is about them, and relate ‘it’ to their life, then they will get ‘it’ and they will be with you for a lifetime.
