Preserving global ecology, saving the environment and all the actions that come with it are reaching fever pitch. Well meaning people focus attention on the external environment and yet continue to pollute their internal environment with truckloads of medical concoctions in the name of health care.
At the same time they level vicious criticism upon chiropractic as being unnecessary and indeed dangerous in its contribution to health care.
Arguably chiropractic is the most sustainable, cleanest, energy efficient, non-polluting health care system around.
As chiropractors we work with the most powerful ally in our area of endeavour – LIFE.
Based on the fundamental premise that we are living in an organised and intelligent world we study what normal looks like. (Even the study of pathology is the study of the ‘normal’ death of a living system) and assist wherever we can to facilitate a person to adjust their eco-system to a higher level of function.
Nothing in and nothing out – nothing added and nothing taken away is what we offer.
Chiropractic has been singing the song of sustainability way before it became a trendy phrase. The key operational base of what we do is in our respect for the long-term perspective.
Know that all the resources are within (unless there are those which have been overcome by the limitations of matter) and that all systems operate as cybernetic loops as described in the metaphor of the Safety Pin Cycle. Every system that is viable has its feedback loops to ensure continued sustainability. We refer to them in many ways and forms but they are all examples of the innate wisdom of self-regulation of our eco-system in action. Call them Afferent/Efferent, Stimulus/Response, Action/Reaction or Cybernetic Systems, they are an acknowledgement of the power of a self-regulating eco-system.
So, as you go about your actions as a chiropractor this week consider your every word and movement and ask yourself “Am I working with or against the Eco-Systems that are inherent within this person?”
