On the back of last week’s blog regarding the wisdom of leaving that that needs to still be done with and for practice members to TOMORROW I wanted to elaborate a little further. This brings us to considering the value of a forward plan of care for the development and enhancement of your practice members.

Too often we can be guilty of thinking that because we have dealt with an area or problem, be it in the spine or the person’s knowledge gaps once before, we have done what we need to do and don’t need to revisit it again.

This gives an attitude of once I’ve found the subluxation (or the lack of knowledge or understanding if this is your focus) that the person may have I just have to fix it and nothing else is required. Unless you have super magical powers this approach won’t cut it in providing sustainable change in a person’s life.

It is about little bits drip-fed over a period of time.

Take a pot plant in your office. It may need a certain amount of water to survive over the course of a year, let’s say 20 litres. But if you give that amount of water in one day either the plant would drown or the water would run all over the floor and 2 weeks later the plant would be dead from dehydration.

The obvious strategy with your plants is to drip-feed them.

The same applies for your practice members. What we do know is that even the smallest change changes everything. The old adage of “you can’t step into the same river twice” is relevant here. With every adjustment and every bit of information or idea you give to a person you are dealing with a whole new system that emerges as a result.

So let it settle.

Come back tomorrow and see what the innate intelligence of the body has been able to do with that adjustment – don’t stuff the nerve system full of input – don’t overload them with adjustments or ideas and information – it will end up all over the ‘floor’ just like the water for the pot plants.

Develop an attitude and a system of Drip Feeding. Give little bits often. Test and measure your work and carefully plan the next infusion of action to pop the person to the next level.

Don’t be a ‘Drip’ – just drip feed.
