This is a series of thoughts addressing the theme of excellence based on a famous quote from Rita Mae Brown, the American novelist and activist. She stated that “You cannot invest your life’s spirit into a compromise” and over the next few weeks I want to visit some of the key components of this viewpoint and how it relates to your practice.
On the back of last week’s discussion on values I want to address the practical application of your values.
Having a list of values is fine but if you don’t have a method by which the values can be implemented you will end up being out of integrity and experiencing contradictions in your life and practice.
This is where having a comprehensive Office Policy and Procedures Manual is imperative. Make sure that every thing that you do and every action that you perform is clearly stated in your OPM.
We suggest that all procedures and policies contain the reason you are doing the activity so there is a clearly stated purpose. Along the ‘Purpose’ is a definitive procedure and if applicable a succinct script.
If you have your practice team on board with this process you will have a business system that keeps you in integrity.
