With the end of the year fast approaching I am sure that you are hearing others (and maybe yourself) saying – “OMG, where did the year go?” Quite a valid question, I would say. Are you and your practice where you thought you would be by this December when 2013 began?
How does your reality line up with the reality that you imagined at the beginning of the year? Have your plans resulted in the outcomes that you set 12 months ago?
Take a few moments to reflect on where, at the beginning of the year you wanted to be by now. How does it match up? If you are or if you aren’t, what contributed to that?
The great thing about life is that it is to a large degree self determined. A saying that I have always held dear is ‘that if it is to be – it is up to me’. I don’t know who uttered these words but I reckon he or she was a pretty smart cookie.
Now, maybe you hear yourself saying, “That’s a nice concept – But, what about things that are out of my control?” “What about the economy?”, “What about the medical attacks?”, “What about the government policy changes?” – you know the story. Granted, stuff does happen and that ‘stuff’ does mess up our plans. It always has and it always will.
The question is, do you let this stuff have a limiting affect on you or do you make the most of it and move forward in a constructive way consistent with your vision and plans?
Contemplate these thoughts over the next week and we will then continue the end of year wrap-up so that we can go into 2014 with great distinctions from our experience of 2013.
