Potential and recently enrolled practice members are coming to your practice carrying with them their own understanding of health, health care, chiropractic and in fact their own worldview. They don’t know (and probably don’t care much) about what you know. They don’t necessarily see things as you do. Metaphorically, you might see it that they use a different type and style of ‘boat’ to navigate the waters of their life than you do. The question must be then ‘What is…
“Excellence can be attained if you…. Care more than others think is wise. Risk more than others think is safe. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible.” – Jim Gentil Here’s the fourth comment on Jim Gentil’s quote on Excellence. I suggest that if you take the time over the next week to focus on each of these statements you will see major changes occur for yourself and your practice. Expecting more than…
“Excellence can be attained if you… Care more than others think is wise. Risk more than others think is safe. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible.” – Jim Gentil This week’s quote has so much wisdom in it so we will explore it under the 4 topics that it deserves. I suggest that if you take the time over the next four weeks to focus on each of these statements you will…
“You don’t get harmony when everybody sings the same note.” — Doug Floyd This week I want to extend on the conversation we had last week around harmony. Last week I stressed the importance of difference of the individuals in order to create harmony of your practice team. This week we will look at the value of difference in your practice members. Harmony of your practice comes from the multitude of phases and stages of their personal evolution. As they…
“You don’t get harmony when everybody sings the same note.” — Doug Floyd Much is spoken about the importance of harmony in a team of people in your practice team. Harmony can often be sought at great cost. The cost of lowered productivity, lowered creativity and even lowered harmony itself – what an oxymoron! Do you hire for similarity? Often we find ourselves seeking the company of those who are like us, who like what we like, who see the…
The past month has seen my personal life intimately involved in the ceremony of commitment aka marriage. A dad’s mixed emotion of the symbolism of giving one’s daughter to marriage is something that I haven’t experienced until now. It is certainly a powerful moment, as any dad will attest. (Or maybe it’s just the ‘wet’ ones of us that get all soppy about it!)… Anyway, marriage is a commitment to a relationship that is enduring. So it is with the…
This is a series of thoughts addressing the theme of excellence based on a famous quote from Rita Mae Brown, the American novelist and activist. She stated that “You cannot invest your life’s spirit into a compromise” and over the next few weeks I want to visit some of the key components of this viewpoint and how it relates to your practice. Theme – Accept responsibility to hold others accountable As we discussed earlier in this series of blogs holding…

You have a huge life spirit just itching to get out and express. The power and wisdom within you is immense. Your ability to create and manifest that which you commit to with love and passion is massive. Are you playing the game of practice in the safe, secure and sensible world? Are you practicing defensively – unwilling to commit yourself and your talents in chiropractic to produce structural and functional change – to facilitate total change in a person’s…

We all have a history of experiences, which contribute to our current abilities, wisdom and insights. Some chiropractors have had 10, 20 or more years experience in practice whilst others have had one years experience 10, 20 or more times. What is the difference that makes the difference? Ilia Priogine made observation of what he called dissipative structures where he noted that in any closed system when the pressure built to a certain point the system ‘popped’ to a new…
With the recent organized attacks on chiropractic it appears that chiropractors are ‘pulling their heads in’ and laying low. Not willing to ‘rock the boat’ or state their position they are shrinking to an apologetic life of victimhood and settling for living below the line of accountability. This strategy results in chiropractors’ outreach to the public being negatively affected. Lower service rates obviously affect income and we are seeing many chiropractors (especially in Australia) taking a drop in income. This…
