It is undeniable that we are engulfed in a rapidly changing world, both local and global. The world is changing and like it or not we are a part of it.
As we have reached the half way point of another year it may be useful to reflect on where we are, where we have been and where we wish to be. Are you where you want to be? Is your practice where you want it to be? Is your profession where you would like it to be? Is the world where you would like it to be?
Many a chiropractor gets into chiropractic with a vision to make effective change on their practice, community or indeed, the world. Unfortunately, all too often they wind up with the outside influences changing them. They have succumbed to the cultural turmoil and the whims of the marketplace. They lose or significantly minimize their original vision just being satisfied to get by.
It brings to mind the conversation in the classic ‘Through the Looking Glass’. “Would you tell me please which way I ought to go from here?”, asks Alice. “That depends a good deal on where you want to go” replies the cat. “I don’t much care where”, says Alice. “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go”, came the reply. “So long as I get somewhere”, Alice adds as an explanation. “Oh, you’re sure to do that”, grinned the cat.
The changes we encounter in life will often challenge our vision and direction. If we are not clear on whom we are and where we are going we can easily buy into the global delusions and end up where external circumstances dictate.
Over the next week consider the reason that you got into chiropractic and your vision for your part in your profession. Make sure that you have a clear statement of this purpose written out.
We will continue exploring this subject next week.z
