When a person is on a mission they can move the world.
History is filled with people who got amazing things done. They didn’t necessarily have greater intellect or talent than anyone else but they did have a strong sense of mission – Elan Musk threw everything into his space program and failed twice. He could have given up but he went a third time and succeeded. When you think of the Musk’s or the Branson’s of the world how are they any different to you and I other than they exhibit a huge sense of mission.
When it comes to your practice – what is its overriding mission? Is the mission palpable? Do your practice members pick up that there is something special going on in your office. They may not be able to articulate it but they know that there is a focus like no other happening within your four walls (and beyond, I might add).
When your practice is on a mission everyone and I mean everyone who is associated with the business knows it. This is the attractive factor. This is what causes people to stay, pay and refer for a lifetime.
Your mission is developed through a logical sequence of neurological events via your purpose, your beliefs and your outcomes.
Any factor in each one of these computations will affect everything that follows and even everything that preceded it.
This is the first leg of philosophy and it is critical to establishing one’s mission.
You know it when you are on with your mission. Life is easy, joyful, satisfying, productive, lucrative and effective. Being off base on your mission is likewise palpable. Life is a struggle, the practice is filled with problems and resistance, Reschedules are up, collections are down and productivity is ‘out the window’.
If you consider that there is an element of mission missing in your practice you will find the missing link in either purpose, beliefs or outcomes.
Every decision that your practice makes must be completely aligned with your mission. This is sometimes referred to as your True North.
Come back to your True North, bring the passion for your purpose back into your daily actions and never care for a person that you’re not excited to care for and your mission will be rekindled.
