The opposition that chiropractic has been receiving in recent times has been significant. Many chiropractors and their associations have reacted to this opposition by going onto the ‘back foot’. Shrinking away from the fray, playing smaller and even disowning one’s heritage and principles has been a common sight.
To many (myself included) it is exciting and indicates that the tipping point is nigh. The critical mass of society is moving towards the values that chiropractic has espoused for over a hundred years and away from the drug cartels destructive, controlling and profit driven activities of the last 60-70 years. This phase of paradigm change will always bring violent opposition from the ‘old order’.
I suggest that now is the time for chiropractors and their teams to be proactive. We need to go on the front foot, to take action and empower each other and ourselves.
Empowerment and its subsequent control over life can be gained in a very easy and relatively effortless manner. Over the next few weeks we will visit a number of easily implementable steps that you can employ to empower yourself and your practice. It would be useful to take the time to practice these suggested actions. Some will take but a few seconds whilst others, like today’s may stretch you if you haven’t been there before. As I state in the in8model® book the first leg of a philosophically congruent process is defining your ‘true north’. When you are to take a stand on an issue or move forward proactively (rather than reactively) you definitely need to put your ‘line in the sand’. You must make a statement that is based on your values. It must be a document that makes your heart sing.
This statement of your purpose is your reference point as you travel forward on your unique journey of life and practice development. Without an inspiring purpose statement you will be at the effect of those who have a more clearly defined purpose and chances are that you will be on their agenda.
Now, get to it and create, revise or tweak you statement of purpose.
