For most people in our society and some in our profession, work is something that you endure until you can afford to retire. At this stage you can do something that is fun and you finally get to really do the things that you’ve always wanted to do.
This is not the way that things need to be – especially in our profession. Being of service to humanity by enhancing health as a chiropractor is a different side of the ledger to the treatment of disease paradigm.
In this environment we then see work with different viewpoint. We see it that work should be a joyful embrace and that every moment should be filled with playful and curious investigation.
In fact we have an overriding policy in our practice and business that ‘work is play with a purpose’. It’s not optional. Work MUST be play with a purpose.
Purpose is the key. Why you do what you do? What is your reason for being? The clarity of your purpose and the passion you have for that must be the primary concern.
When you are really immersed and totally passionate about what you are doing, then work is not a struggle or an effort. Even the most bizarre practice member is a delight to care for when you are playing with purpose. Time flies when in this state and you will find them having to drag you out of the office at the end of the day.
To finish the day with more energy than what you started with is a sure sign that you’ve created a vocation where you are ‘in the groove’. You know that you’ve been investing your life in something worthwhile.
A heartfelt and purposeful practice is a sure winner. People pick up on the ‘vibe’ and are attracted to you. Along with that all else follows.
